This case study explores the impact of YouTube on the language development of a young child, specifically focusing on Jaze Denzel A. Miranda, a four-year-old boy who demonstrates greater proficiency in English than in his native language, Tagalog. The study employs qualitative methods, including in-person observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis, to understand how frequent exposure to English-language YouTube content shapes a child's linguistic skills. Findings reveal that digital media, particularly educational and entertainment videos on YouTube, significantly influence children's speech patterns, often leading to the adoption of English over their mother tongue. While YouTube offers accessible learning opportunities, especially in households where English is not primarily spoken, it also presents potential communication barriers within the child’s immediate environment. The study highlights the need for balanced media consumption and emphasizes the importance of parental guidance in promoting native language use. Practical recommendations and directions for future research are provided to address the evolving role of digital platforms in early childhood language acquisition.
