The journal welcomes submissions from all areas of science – from life sciences and engineering to social sciences – reflecting a strong commitment to interdisciplinary knowledge sharing. GESRI is also an open-access publication, ensuring that all published student work is freely available to educators, peers, and the public. By combining rigorous editorial standards with an educational focus, GESRI enables students not only to disseminate their work internationally but also to improve their research and communication skills through the publication process.
Every submitted manuscript first undergoes a scientific review lasting approximately four weeks. The purpose of this stage is to evaluate the research content and ensure it meets the journal’s academic standards before moving toward publication. During the scientific review, members of GESRI’s editorial board (and subject-specific advisors, if needed) closely examine each submission’s quality and validity. Submissions are assessed based on several key criteria:
Originality and Significance: Evaluating whether the research question and results are novel, interesting, or important within the relevant field.
Methodological Soundness: Checking that the study’s design, data collection, and analysis are rigorous and appropriate for the question being investigated.
Clarity of Presentation: Ensuring the student has clearly explained the objectives, methods, results, and conclusions in a logical and coherent manner.
Adherence to Scientific Standards: Verifying that the work follows ethical research guidelines and properly cites relevant literature, with no plagiarism or fundamental errors.
At the end of this review phase, authors receive constructive feedback on their work. The editorial team may request revisions or clarifications based on the reviewers’ comments, giving student authors an opportunity to improve their manuscript before it advances to the next stage.
Once a submission passes the scientific review, it enters a two-week copy editing phase. In this stage, the focus shifts from evaluating content to refining the manuscript’s language, clarity, and formatting. Editors work to polish the paper so that it reads clearly and professionally, without altering the scientific substance. Key tasks during copy editing include:
Grammar and Spelling: Correcting grammatical errors, typos, and punctuation mistakes to ensure the text is error-free.
Clarity and Flow: Revising any awkward phrasing or overly complex sentences to improve readability while preserving the author’s voice and intended meaning.
Formatting Consistency: Ensuring the manuscript adheres to the journal’s style guidelines – for example, fixing citations and references to the proper format, standardizing headings and fonts, and checking that figures and tables are labeled and placed correctly.
Final Proofreading: Both the editors and the author review the edited manuscript (often using tracked changes) to catch any remaining issues and confirm that the paper is ready for publication.
By the end of the copy editing stage, the manuscript is polished and conforms to all of GESRI’s editorial standards. The result is a clear, well-structured paper that is fully prepared for the final publication phase.
After copy editing is complete, the final publishing stage (approximately two weeks) prepares the manuscript for public release. The editorial team at GESRI finalizes all details and ensures the paper is properly published through the journal’s channels. Key steps in the publishing phase include:
Final Formatting: The editors integrate the manuscript into the journal’s final layout or template. They perform a last round of proof-checks to make sure all copy edits have been applied correctly and that the document’s formatting is polished (page design, fonts, graphics placement, etc.).
Digital Publication: The article is then published on GESRI’s official website as part of the latest issue of the journal. It is assigned an issue and page number (or other identifier) and made accessible online for readers worldwide.
Print Edition (if applicable): If the journal produces a print version of its issues, the finalized article is also included in the printed issue format. This ensures that any physical copies of the journal will contain the student’s article in the correct sequence and design.
Release and Notification: Once the issue is ready, GESRI officially releases it to the public. The authors are notified that their work has been published, and the new issue may be announced via the journal’s website, email newsletter, or social media. At this point, the student’s research is formally part of the academic record on GESRI’s platform and is available for peers, educators, and researchers to read and reference.
This publishing stage marks the culmination of the review process. The manuscript, having successfully passed scientific review and copy editing, is now a published article in the GESRI Journal. Through this rigorous yet supportive journey—from initial submission to final publication—GESRI not only disseminates student research globally but also nurtures the academic growth of its student contributors in a professional, accessible manner.
These timeframes are all approximate and will vary depending on the volume of submissions. During March through May we receive our highest number of submissions and there are usually delays of 2 weeks at each stage of the review process while we work to process all submissions.
Please wait to contact us about the status of your manuscript until at least 2 weeks after the time given on this timeline or in the most recent decision email you received from the journal - whichever is longer. We do not expedite the review nor publication process of any manuscript at Gesri.
